Recap of Fall Fashion Trends?

By: Emily Thomas

As we said goodbye to summer and all the tank tops, shorts, and flip-flops that go along with it, we effortlessly embraced the comforts of fall fashion. As we live in Florida, the weather does not necessarily scream crisp fall mornings and crunchy leaves under our step, however, we are still experimenting with fall trends nonetheless. The fall season had barely begun, and fashion trends were already taking over the internet and fashion world.

Ribbons/Bows

We were all tied up last fall. Whether it was ribbons on pants, shoes, purses, or totes, the ribbon epidemic took over TikTok and Pinterest. As well as ribbons, hair bows were an unexpected trend that found lots of traction. People used lace, satin bows, ribbon, etc., to elevate their hairstyles and give an almost babydoll aesthetic to their outfits, emphasizing a feminine cuteness for an effortless style.

Lace

Lace truly took over our creative alterations last fall. We saw transparent lace long sleeves paired with mini skirts or jeans. We saw tank tops with lace trimming around the neckline (very much Elena Gilbert vibes). We even saw see-through lace skirts with matching underwear, and we LOVED IT! With it being an easy addition to any garment, our obsession with lace will come through in soft spring fashion trends and DIY fashion.

Statement Belts

Chunky belts, chain belts, belts over coats, double belts, belts over dresses; it was rare that you did not see a belt in use last fall. Belts create a separation that can immediately change an entire outfit. Most of the time, the belts weren't even being used for their intended purposes but were used simply as an accessory for a look that was lacking beforehand. Belts came and went and are now here again, and we aren't exactly angry about it

With spring fashion amidst us, it is imperative we look back on the trends of the fall season and either leave the past in the past, build upon the looks we loved, or inspire entirely new trends with a fresh eye for fashion. One of the most exciting aspects of fashion is the ability to create and develop new ways to showcase the emotions we are feeling and the messages we want to convey. No matter the season, individuality through fashion is always within reach, and the ever-changing trends invoke artistry in every person.

Elevated basics

Some of the best looks we saw over the fall were coincidentally the most simple, with the accessories taking the spotlight from the garments. Plain tees and long sleeves are staple items that we should all have in our closets, mainly because they can be largely altered or accessorized to elevate an outfit without being too expensive or flamboyant.

Additionally, oversized sweaters, both patterned and plain were another huge trend that's not necessarily new but is inevitably repeated and loved. Cozy oversized sweaters are a fall must, and the options are endless. Think Rory Gilmore or Molly Weasley’s handmade Christmas sweaters.

Arguably, the most vital element of an elevated basic look is to emphasize accessorizing. Bags, headbands, shoes, keychains, chunky jewelry… the options are endless, so allow the creativity to flow and try not to hold back!
